Toyota Australia has issued a series of recalls involving a number of vehicle models as part of the global Takata airbag recall campaign.
What is the defect with the airbags?
The propellant in inflators in the Takata airbags subject to the recall may degrade after prolonged exposure to high absolute humidity and fluctuating high temperatures. Degraded propellant can cause inflator rupture during airbag deployment. In the event of an inflator rupture, metal fragments could pass through the airbag cushion material, striking the vehicle occupants, and result in serious injury or death.
Is my Toyota affected?
As part of the recall process, Toyota Australia notifies registered owners of affected vehicles by mail.
Toyota urges all guests in Australia to contact the Toyota recall campaign helpline.

"We purchased a used vehicle off Jason and we wanted to pass on our thanks and acknowledgement of the FANTASTIC service that Jason provided us.
We called in on a Sunday to have a look at the car, Jason was not even on duty but had just called in to his work after competing in a Fun Run but without hesitation, Jason proceeded to help us out by taking us over the Cruze, providing answers to all of our queries in an extremely professional and helpful manner and then followed up with a painless and simple finalization of the ‘deal’. I must say the correct and prompt support extended by him was appreciable. It’s very rare these days to come across a staff member of an organisation who was willing to bend over backwards for a customer. You should certainly feel proud of such a wonderful staff member who can bring in goodwill for the company, following their duty perfectly."
